AMIODARONE THERAPY AIDED CHANGES IN THE THYROID GLAND FUNCTIONS AMONG THE CHILDREN

Abstract

The results of research of thyroid condition and function in 82 children with dilated cardiomyopthy and arrhythmogenic dysfunction of myocardium without obvious thyropathy are submitted. Is shown that application of amiodaron results in induces predictable changes in thyroid function tests in 40% patients and reversible ultrasound changes of thyroid. This condithion is not by the reason for a cancellation of amiodaron therapy. Clinically relevant thyroid dysfunction is not uncommon and exist in 6% patients during amiodarone therapy but requires careful diagnosis and treatment. The frequency with which amiodarone causes thyroid changes serves to emphasise the need for careful thyroid function checking including its evaluation before amiodaron using, rational prescribing and long term cardiological follow up.
Key words: dilated cardiomyopthy, amiodaron, thyroid gland, children.
